It's finally feeling more like Spring Time here in the Chicago area. We have had a lot of rain to end of April but rain is better than snow. Even though we have headed into May, I'm going to start these weekly themes with April Showers Bring May Flowers. To me it's definitely fitting for Spring Time.

Well since it’s "April showers", water seems appropriate for sensory play. You can put small animals or bugs in your bin. You can use measuring cups, spoons, funnels, whatever you have available. It can rain down on them on whatever you choose to put there. You can say “rain, wet”.
Yes, water can be messy but messy can be fun. You can do water play in the tub if you don’t want to do it in a bucket, then they can splash more. If it’s nicer out where you are, you could do it outside as well. You can add food coloring or those bath color tabs to color the water for some more fun.
Coffee filter flowers were always fun as a kid but I have a Kuerig so I don’t have coffee filters. I do have box with the gift bags and tissue paper though. Tissue paper works just like coffee filters do. So, you can let your little one color on it with markers, naming the colors, drawing lines or circles. You can draw along with them and work on drawing lines down or across. Then you can spray it with water and watch the colors bleed. When it dries you can make flowers with it. Or you can put together this April Showers Bring May Flowers picture. I bet it is something Grandma’s might like for Mother’s Day. Use Finger prints to make the raindrops.

Hopefully it’s not raining anymore, because it’s May and it’s time for flowers. Go for walk outside. Did it rain earlier? Is it wet outside? Talk about the puddles or mud. If you"re adventurous go jump in some puddles, play in some mud.
Look around for flowers along your walk. You can point them out, name the colors or even pick some flowers, dandelions are always fun. You can count the flowers you pick. You could also use them for art and paint with them.
