All the feelings

Right now is such a crazy time, we are all feeling all the feels. Even as an adult in such an uncertain time, I don't know how to feel. Can you imagine how our little kiddos feel? They're not allowed out of the house, can't see their family and friends. Their schedules have changed too, their worlds are turned upside down and it's harder for them to understand that some invisible thing is threatening so many people. It's hard for many adults to understand why we must social distance. If we as adults have all the feels, it makes it weirder for kids. We're supposed to have all the answers for them, and I know I don't have any of the answers. I luck out a bit that my kiddo is 14 and is happy with playing xbox with his friends. Although even he has his moments and mood swings and he doesn't know why. He knows about all the feelings.

For little ones that don't know their feelings it's important to help them. The 2 year old that just screams because he got jelly on his finger and now he's messy, or the one that is just acting crazy because they are so over tired. Let's learn about feelings and of course I have some feelings flashcards for you in the Printables section. Or you can find them in my TpT store here. You can look at the flashcards and discuss the child in each picture. "Oh that baby is yawning, they're sleepy." or "Oh that girl looks so mad. You get mad when your brother takes your toy."

Some other activities that you can you can do for feelings include

-Singing "If You're Happy and You know It". You can add some feelings to that as well. If you're mad, say "eerrrrrr". If you"re sad, go "wah wah wah" (like those babies in the Wheels On The Bus. If you"re silly, make a funny face. If you're sleepy, pretend to sleep with sleep sounds. You can use the flashcards to pick a feeling. You can talk about the feelings for more actions. "What would you do if you're excited?"

- Make feelings faces on paper plates or paper. You can draw on the face features, you don't have to be an artist obviously I'm not. You can use playdough to make them too. Roll a snake and give your face a great big smile.

- Practice your feeling faces, make those faces in the mirror. It can helpful and funny to see their different faces. Make a mad face. Make a sad face. Make a silly face. It also helps them learn to read peoples faces better.

- Get active and moving around. Draw some feelings faces on Post-it notes or just paper and put them around the house or just around the room. Ask your child to find the happy face, or make a face and ask them to find the same feeling. They can learn and run back and forth because everyone could use an energy outlet.

Help your child learn and identify their feelings. Use feeling words because right now we all have all the feels.
