Playing with Blocks

Updated: Jul 14, 2020

Non-speech related benefits for playing with blocks include working on coordination and small motor skills. It's great for imagination play. You can also use Tupperware or empty cereal boxes. So whatever you choose to stack up you can still work on the same things.

First of all for speech, work on words like "up, on top, fall down, uh oh, big, tall." You can work on colors, counting, and pretend play. You can make houses or castles or garages for their cars. Then you can work on "under, in, out" along with any other words that would go along with that Pretend Play like "house, castle, car, open...." The possibilities are endless. That's why play is the best for kids to learn speech or anything else.

It's great for imagination and problem solving as well. You can make blocks into anything you want, even build a whole city. You can build buildings and have a road for your cars. Just have fun!
